| Our hair is the most exposed part of our body. Every day our hair has to face the polluted outer world. It thus becomes very tough for our hair to survive in this critical circumstance day by day. The result is weakening of the hair and ultimately resulting in giving birth to a number of problems like hair breakage, hair fall, roughening, split ends, dandruff, etc. To protect our hair from these problems we need to pay a lot of attention towards our hair. When the day breaks the first thing that our hair has to face is none other than the sun. Though the sun is very much helpful for us but it really does a lot of harm to our hair each day. The UVA rays from the sun can burn the outer layer of the hair i.e. the cuticle. It consists of tiny web of overlapping scales. These scales are burned and damaged by the UVA rays of the sun, and the hair looks brittle, dry and lifeless. Not only that the UVA rays can also burn the scalp if left unprotected. By this the skin on the scalp may get damaged and may accelerate aging. This may ultimately cause hair loss. This type of problem is especially seen in the summer months. But now we are not at all helpless against the harmful effects of sun on our hair. The sun protection filters are now available in the market. These are sunscreens, which forms a coating on the hair and reflects, rather than absorb, the ultraviolet rays. Zinc oxide and Titanium dioxide are examples of physical filters used in most sunscreens. And always there are the fashion statements along with protective measures by using straw hats, or wearing a scarf underneath to ensure no sun exposure. Apart from the sun there are also other things causing damage to our hair. The outer circumstance, which is too much polluted with a lot of dust and dirt, is always posing a threat to the health of our hair. Not only that, but there are a lot of unwanted chemicals in the environments released by the chimneys and car pollution which causes a lot of harm to our hair. And this is the reason we need a regular shampoo and a regular conditioning to our hair. Shampoo on every alternate day helps in removing these polluted particles from our hair. But it itself may cause rough hair, and for that we need regular conditioning to provide the necessary moisture and nutrition to our hair. Not only that these things affect our hair but also sometimes we ourselves cause a great deal of harm to our hair. We often care less for the health of our hair than caring for the style of it, forgetting that without a healthy hair no style can be complete. We often go on using a lot of chemicals in the form of hair colors, less thinking of the effects they may have on our hair. Thus it is always recommended by the hair experts to keep a check on using harmful chemicals to the hair.
